In the Making... is a new event to support the next generation of Contemporary Craft Makers in the UK, through a programme of showcase exhibitions and Artist/Maker-led talks and workshops, from established Makers and professionals within the industry.

The event aims to give new makers a fascinating insight into the world of contemporary craft practice, for those wanting to develop a career in Making, or who simply have an interest in contemporary craft and design.

The project will also give visitors to the gallery a ‘behind-the-scenes’ view into one of the largest growing creative industries in the UK. See the work of well known and established Artists and Makers, whose work can be found in galleries throughout the country. Chat with them about their practice during our scheduled talks, and let them share their skills with you and make your own piece of contemporary craft in our Artist-led workshops.

The project is divided into 2-week blocks, with each focusing on one specific contemporary craft practice:

Printmaking – 3rd to 15th February
Textiles – 24th February to 8th March
Ceramics – 17th to 29th March
